They are affordable and can get them anywhere. The Nikon 4300 is powered by a Li-ion rechargeable battery with an above average life above the average. Getting a second battery is a good idea but not a must. This battery will last approximately 90 minutes, which is quite considerablewhen you are taking shots. Won’t last as long if you are using the movie mode and reviewing often your pictures using the LCD screen. It’s always nice when you know that you have a back-up battery and don’t have to worried about running out of power, for that reason if your budget allow it it's a good idea to get a second battery.
