MemoryNikon supply a 16MB memory card when you buy a Coolpix 3100. With a 3 megapixel digital camera you will take approximately 15 pictures with this memory card.
I always recommend getting a 256MB memory card to start. They are inexpensive (around $55 for a Compact Flash) and easy to find. You will take about 210 pictures before having to empty your memory card with a 256MB.Compact Flash is the type of memory card you need to get for a Nikon 3100.

Case and batteriesIt will be wise to buy a carry case for your digital camera. First, you can use it to carry your extra memory cards and spare batteries and most of all it will protect your Nikon 3100. Nikon is supplying 2 AA-type Alkaline Batteries. I prefer to spend a little bit more money and get the rechargeable batteries. In the long run, you will save money. The Nikon soft case 2200/3200
will fit your Coolpix 3100 or for about $40, you can get a case and a rechargeable battery kit.
